Job Description
Early Childhood Teacher
The person selected for this position will be responsible for the general supervision and management of
the classroom.
Qualifications
The person selected for this position must be at least 18 years of age, in the process of becoming
professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, and must be able to meet the requirements of
The Office of Child Care Licensing. For Licensing requirements this person must at least have a high
school diploma or equivalent and completed Training in Early Care and Education 1 & 2, have an
Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education, with
a minimum of 12 months experience. This person must be sensitive and mature individual who is able to
relate well to both children and adults. This person must have the personality and ability to provide
leadership and stability for program continuity. This person should be willing to perform their duties in
accordance with the educational philosophy of the school.
Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Plan, supervise, and implement the program for the class in accordance with the
policies and values of the school.
- Involve Assistants in planning and implementation of lessons/activities.
- Gear the program to the needs of the individual children with concern for their interests,
handicaps, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning.
- Help children become aware of their roles as integral members of the group, fostering
socialization among the group.
- Treat all children with dignity and respect. Considering individual children in relationship to their
culture and socioeconomic background.
- Observe and assess children’s social and academic development through written progress reports.
- Conduct parent conferences on children’s school adjustment and classroom behavior if
requested by the parent or deemed necessary.
- Complete daily sheets to be sent home for each child. Daily sheets need to be accurately
completed with the pertinent information about the child.
- Be responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, safety and learning environment
of the classroom. Including cleaning after snacks, lunch, and art activities.
- Submit monthly lesson plans to the Director, and posting daily activities on the bulletin board in
the classroom.
- Communicate with the afternoon assistant in some respect in order to ensure continuity between
the morning and afternoon.
- Maintain a professional attitude at all times particularly in terms of relationships with parents,
children and co-workers.
- Assist Administration in ensuring the smooth coordination of activities and daily routines
throughout the school.
- Assist Administration in the ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the
developmental levels of the children.
- Assist Administration in explaining the program to visitors.
- Attend all staff meetings and any scheduled In-service days.
- Attend classes in order to maintain annual training hours of at least 18 August to August. CPR and
First Aid certifications must remain current. Medication Administration Certification is required as
well.
- Accept temporary work assignments in the event the regularly scheduled personnel are not
available.
Job Description
Early Childhood Assistant Teacher
The person selected for this position will be responsible for assisting a classroom teacher with the
general supervision and management of the classroom. The individual may be responsible for a group in
case of absence of another staff member or as the number of children decreases.
Qualifications:
The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as an assistant teacher of young
children, especially in the field of early education or development, and must be able to meet the
requirements of The Office of Child Care Licensing. For Licensing requirements this person must at least
have a high school diploma or equivalent, Training in Early Care and Education 1, college credits in Early
Childhood Education, a degree from a three year vocational program endorsed by the Department of
Education, with six months of experience. This person must be sensitive and mature individual who is able
to relate well to both children and adults. This person should be willing to perform their duties in
accordance with the educational philosophy of the school.
Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Assist in planning and implementing the program for the class in accordance with the policies
and values of the school under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and
preparing needed materials and supplies.
- Help children become aware of their roles as integral members of the group, fostering
socialization among the group.
- Treat all children with dignity and respect. Considering individual children in relationship to their
culture and socioeconomic background.
- Assist in completing daily sheets to be sent home for each child. Daily sheets need to be accurately
completed with the pertinent information about the child.
- Assist with the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, safety and learning environment of the
classroom. Including general housekeeping tasks including cleaning after snacks, lunch, and art
activities and proper diapering and bathroom procedures.
- Maintain a professional attitude at all times particularly in terms of relationships with parents,
children and co-workers.
- Assist the Administration in ensuring the smooth coordination of activities and daily routines
throughout the school.
- Assist the Administration in explaining the program to visitors.
- Assist the Administration in the ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the
developmental levels of the children.
- Attend all staff meetings and any scheduled In-service days.
- Attend classes in order to maintain annual training hours of at least 18 hours (for full time
employees and 10 for part time) August to August. CPR and First Aid certifications must remain
current. Medication Administration Certification is required as well.
- Accepts temporary work assignments in the event the regularly scheduled personnel are not
available.
